Football traditions...are they fading away?

College football is steeped in tradition, fight songs, school colors, mascots, rivalries and rabid fanbases!  Recently when talk of the mega-conferences began several traditions were altered almost immediately.  Texas and Texas A&M will no longer meet on the football field as a result of A&M's move to the SEC.  Money and greed are threatening to ruin college football ...so I ask...where is the outrage??

Nobody is protesting the end of this Lone Star State rivalry...it really makes you wonder what happened to those storied fanbases that they just let this rivalry game go without so much as a peep.  What happened to the passion?  Guess we shouldn't be suprised when today's student athletes don't seem to grasp the concept of tradition and rivalry...they don't seem to feel it to their core.  Guess that's why they think it's ok to sale their bowl and rivalry gear and awards.

Am I alone in my passion for college football and the worry about where it is headed?  Anybody care to chime in?

  1. you are not alone in your love for college sports!! i actually much prefer college over professional because of the rivalries and traditions and the football announcer..i think it was keith jackson...that reminded us that these guys were just "kids"...stations used to show what the players majors were and their gpa...but i suppose with all the problems they've been having with academics--it might be embarrassing to put a 1.9 gpa on national television...and i know you know i'm an osu fan...but with the controversy around the whole tressel and pryor thin...and the guys selling their gold pants and rings for tattoos...it kinda made me feel bad as a fan...that maybe i took this stuff too seriously...what did those things really mean to me?? it's not like they were mine...i had nothing to do with aquiring them..i just like to watch them play every saturday...and hell..if they don't care...why should i?? but after watching the 1st game after all that mess...and seeing the buckeye cowboy and seeing all the fans still filling up the horseshoe...still dressing like woody...still looking as upset as ever when they bucks go 3 and out on the 1st drive...and when i can still hear the stadium do the O-H-I-O...and still watch TBDBITL to script ohio...i realized--the traditions are still quite alive in the fans and screw what these kids think about them!!
